The Vikings believed to that the Runes had a written code and had magical properties. Runes were often used in magical charms for protection and for healing. Each Rune means something different to different people and you need to select the one that is personal to you. These pendants are designed not only to be worn but also to be used as a traditional fire steel when use with Flint. Small enough to fit in a Tinderbox or Tinder Pouch but also can be worn around the neck and still be totally functional as a traditional flint and steel striker. 

This traditional styled Viking Rune steel Striker is used for traditional ‘Flint & Steel’ fire making. 

Our Fire Steels have been specially designed to spark efficiently when using the correct striking technique, and that optimal spark generation can only really be achieved when using a new super sharp piece of flint, as well as some good quality, and dry tinder, such as Char Cloth, Amadou or Chaga.
