The New Era of Sharpening Begins!
S.H.A.R.K. a new, and innovative, sharpening technique that does not require the practitioner to purchased, or obtain, any of the plethora of sharpening gismos, goodies and jigs that are available on the market today. The only exception to this is perhaps a decent whetstone, but even this is not an absolute requirement, but will aid in the practice of this technique. Best of all, this simple, yet sophisticate, sharpening methodology enables anyone, young and old, skilled and unskilled, to consistently achieve a Razor Sharp Cutting edge on any and all cutting tools that it is applied to. It has none of the fuss and bother usually associated with other traditional and standard sharpening practices and procedures in use today.
Mark Hordon, creator, inventor, or should we say discoverer, of the S.H.A.R.K. Sharpening Technique, spent close to five decades as a student, practitioner and teacher of modern standard and traditional sharpening techniques before he thought that there had to be an easier way than this, there just had to be! There had to be a no nonsense, cut it to the bone, way of achieving a superior razor sharp cutting edge. There had to be a way to avoid the hard slog and years of practice presently required if you wanted to get something really sharp. There had to be a way to give new students, and future sharpening masters and teachers, an easier introduction into the elusive, and often secretive, world of sharpening. There had to be a way to provide quick, reliable and consistently superior sharpening results that were easily learned, practiced and then mastered. There had to be a way to obviate the need for power tools, mechanical thingy-ma-jigs and other cleaver and magical devices that aid in obtaining superior sharpening results. There had to be a way for any new technique to compliment and eventually incorporate the very best principles and practices of the established sharpening doctrines. There just had to be a way, but how???
For any innovative sharpening technique to have any chance of becoming generally used and accepted, it would be required that the technique utilise the very minimal of sharpening equipment. It would be require that the technique only be powered by the flesh, sinew, blood, bones and mind of the human operator. It would be require that the technique be easily practiced in any environment from a fully fitted workshop, to a domestic kitchen, in a field somewhere in Dorking, or prairie in Mongolia, a jungle in the Andes or a woodland Epping. In fact, it would be required that it work in every corner of the developed and undeveloped world from pillar to post and from pole to pole, without fail or impediment. Now some might say that all of this requiring, was requesting quite a lot of any honing practices, and that it was a bit of a tall order to expect that any sharpening technique ever be envisioned with even a fraction of these conditions and requirements ever being incorporated … some might say this, but there it was! If any new technique was to created and then become manifest it had to fit all of these parameters, or the idea would just have be scrapped and forgotten about … thus was born the S.H.A.R.K. Sharpening Technique!
The S.H.A.R.K. Sharpening Technique can be applied to all sharpening tools such as Knife, Axe, Machetes, Chisels, Plane Blades, Swords, Pen Knives, Bushcraft & Survival Knives, Carving Knives, Spoon Knives and Kitchen Knives etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.
The ‘S.H.A.R.K.’ in the S.H.A.R.K. Sharpening Technique is an acronym for “Simplified Honing for Advanced Razor-sharp Knives”.
